A Pre-study on Greening Information Management for Sustainable Development

The exponential growth in digital information/data have led to creation of data centers that consume energy. Governments need to undertake green data stewardship strategies and policies to reduce social, ecologic and environmental challenges that are currently being neglected. The literature review also confirmed that not much research exists on green information management which justifies undertaking this study.

Studies will be conducted in different countries.

The Aim and Objectives of the Study:

The aim is to investigate how governments are working to achieve green information management to align with the ambitions of sustainable development. The aim is to be achieved through the following objectives:

a) Establish what strategies and policies governments (a selected number of countries including the UAE will be identified) have implemented to achieve sustainable information management

b) Examine awareness among public officers about the impact information management has on the environment

c) Establish how the current developments of open data and data houses are aligned with the ambitions of sustainable development

d) Make recommendations for greening information management
